Its Relevance

Updated: Dec 8, 2020

"Fashion is selective at who they let in and keeps women at a certain place."

As we strive for equality and believe in representation across all fields we must also pay attention to the fashion industry where womenswear rarely feature pockets in contrast to menswear where pockets are considered mandatory.

In literature pockets hold connotations of a reserve, a place of safe-keeping. Authors such as Charles Dickens have showcased thefts through phrases such as 'plunge his hand into the old gentleman's pocket, and draw from thence a handkerchief!’ which represents pockets as a place where one can store their valuables.

The neglect of pockets in women's clothing is perhaps indicating that women do not have such valuables to store and is yet another way that society makes women depend on the men around her.

Not only are they used to store material wealth but also, sometimes a sanctuary when one is uncomfortable - our hands play a molar role in defining how one is feeling in a particular environment. It is psychologically proven that people tend to reach into their pockets for that extra warmth or a boost of self confidence.

Featuring here a fun frilly sequin ensemble which can be customised to match your vibe and a pocket for you to hide some chocolate! A wardrobe essential for all those times when you can't use your head before going out but want to still look cute.
